Avaliação do manejo e das condições de entorno da arborização urbana de Campina Grande – PB
Abstract
Proper urban tree management is essential to ensure safety, public health, and ecological sustainability. This study aimed to evaluate the management practices and surrounding conditions of trees located along a section of the central median of Avenida Marechal Floriano Peixoto, in Campina Grande (PB), Brazil. A total of 98 trees were analyzed regarding the presence and quality of pruning, occurrence of injuries, root exposure, interference with power lines, and soil and pavement conditions. Results showed that 68.3% of the pruning operations were inadequately performed, causing structural damage and potential phytosanitary risks. Approximately 32.6% of the trees exhibited root exposure, while the presence of plastic sheeting and debris in some areas of the median impaired soil drainage. No conflicts with power lines were observed. The findings highlight the need for technical training of pruning teams and the importance of integrated urban planning aimed at the sustainable management of Campina Grande’s urban forest
