Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming medical education through realistic simulations and adaptive learning systems. This study conducted a simplified systematic literature review (2019-2024) using MeSH, DeCs, VHL, SciELO and PMC databases, with keywords including "AI in medical education" and "educational technologies". From 331 initially identified articles, 56 met inclusion criteria: 14 in Portuguese (25%) and 42 in other languages (75%), with a publication peak in 2024. The analysis categorized studies into: AI application development (APP), original articles (ART), and systematic reviews (SR). Portuguese publications included 3 APP, 5 ART and 6 SR; other languages contained 14 APP, 18 ART and 10 SR. Findings suggest AI offers innovative potential for medical education but requires further studies on validation, ethics and data protection. This review synthesizes current knowledge and identifies gaps for future research, highlighting the need for comprehensive evaluation of these emerging technologies in medical training while addressing implementation challenges.
