Technological Prospection of Chlorella vulgaris’ commercial use

Microalgae have aroused the growing interest of researchers and industries in various industries for the growing global environmental appeal and the need to take better advantage of renewable forms of energy and the use of natural products that promote the carbon cycle. Due to the biodiversity and biochemical variability of these microorganisms combined with biotechnology, it has become possible to use microalgae to produce biocomposites that will meet the urgent need for the use of products in environmental and human health areas. The aim of the study was to identify the main commercial uses of Chlorella vulgaris, species most cited in the search in articles. Research was carried out in 03 international article bases and 03 patents, two international and one national. As a result, Brazil, although ranked 6th in the deposited market, appears only 12th in the ranking of the countries that invest the most in R&D on this topic. Moreover, the research explained in the articles relates to the use of biofuel-centric Microalgae biomass, while patents exploit its commercial use more strongly in core technologies in nutraceutical/food. This finding that Brazil has been ranked as the sixth consumer market and that the most commercialized area has been nutraceutical corroborates the reduced investment in R&D at the national level and that the appeal for palliative and preventive human nutrition is even greater, including internationally, than the environmental appeal that requires greater investment for technologies that act in a predictive, environmental and collective manner.Downloads
