Abstract

Plutella xylostella has a prominent position; among which pests that attack or grow Brassicas. Currently; their control is performed by applying synthetic insecticides; but the continuous application of these insecticides; allow to emergence populations resistant of the P. xylostella. Alternatively; products such as extracts and essential oils obtained from plants; which have a complex chemical nature; make it difficult for the pest to metabolize their constituents; thus minimizing the emergence of resistant populations of the prague; like as P. xylostella. This work aims to investigate the potential insecticide of ethanolic extract of leaves from Piper tuberculatum and its constituents against P. xylostella. LC-MS analysis of the ethanolic extracts of P. tuberculatum leaves revealed the presence of amides in its composition. Through column chromatography were isolated the piplartine and piperine amides which had their structures confirmed by 1H and 13C NMR and GC-MS analysis. Extract of leaves from P. tuberculatum; piplartine and piperine were assay against P. xylostella larvae. Larvicidal bioassays of leaves extract from P. tuberculatum; piperina and piplartina revealed lethal concentraction mean (LC50) of 2.71; 2.49 and 7.85 mg.mL-1; respectively. Compared the results obtained from the commercial insecticide Azamax (LC50 = 4.89 mg.mL-1); was observed that the extract and piperine were about twice times more toxic to P xylostela than the positive control. These results show that leaf extract of P. tuberculatum and piperina has the potential to be used with insecticides.
