Development and evaluation of hybrid training on bee health for official veterinary service professionals

Abstract

Animal health defense actions are marked by their constant evolution, driven by new sector demands, such as changes in epidemiological scenarios and increasing regulatory requirements. These transformations highlight the importance of continuous training for official veterinary service professionals across the country. In this context, the present study aimed to develop and evaluate a hybrid and distance learning training course focused on bee health — a topic of growing relevance. A virtual learning environment was created using the Moodle platform, featuring video lessons, texts, and interactive materials, organized into three units: technical and regulatory content, health education, and course assessment. Three synchronous meetings were also held via videoconference: the first to present the course, the second for discussions and guidance on the final activity, and the third for presentation of participants’ work. The learning assessment involved developing a bee health education proposal aimed at producers. At the end of the course, participants completed questionnaires to evaluate their perceptions of the content, materials, methodology, and other aspects of the course. The proposed model proved to be low-cost, quickly implementable, and effective in promoting the exchange of experiences, interactivity, and the formation of professional networks, with consistent learning outcomes. Challenges included the need for institutional policies on continuing education, recognition of the educational competencies of field technicians, and greater engagement in synchronous activities. It is concluded that this training can be adapted to other animal species, contributing to sector sustainability and strengthening the role of the official veterinary service.
