Abstract

Franciscanism was not restricted to the medieval period or European geography, this social and spiritual practice went through the centuries and entered the doors of the New World presenting a religiosity beyond the traditional concept. Several religious adopted Franciscanism as a strategy to approach the daily life of common people, seeking to minimize the anguish and suffering of the faithful. But it was in the Northeast that this seed germinated and flourished, defining an imaginary that still moves the crowds today
