Abstract

The São José dos Cordeiros Honey Festival, held in the Cariri region of Paraíba, celebrates its 15th anniversary, establishing itself as a benchmark for beekeeping and meliponiculture in Brazil's semiarid region. By bringing together family farmers, researchers, students, and consumers, the event promotes the dissemination of technologies, the appreciation of traditional knowledge, and the commercialization of honey-derived products. Its socioeconomic impacts include strengthening the income of honey-producing families, generating business opportunities, and boosting the regional economy. In the environmental field, it highlights the importance of raising public awareness of the importance of bees in pollination, biodiversity conservation, and the sustainability of local ecosystems. Furthermore, the festival is important as a space for integrating science, culture, and regional development, articulating rural extension, technological innovation, and the appreciation of the cultural identity of the Cariri region of Paraíba. Congratulations to the authors and our thanks to the Municipal Government of São José dos Cordeiros, the organizers, collaborators, and other institutional and community partners who, over the course of 14 years, have contributed to the consolidation and strengthening of the Honey Festival. This collective support has been essential for the promotion of beekeeping, meliponiculture, and the sustainable development of the Cariri region of Paraíba.
