Abstract

Arecaceae comprises a diversity of plants of economic potential such as oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) And coconut palm (Cocos nucifera). Many plants in this family suffer from a diversity of pests. Among the phytosanitary problems that cause economic loss to these plants is Eupalamides cyparissias cyparissias (FABR., 1776) a relevant pest distributed in countries such as Brazil, Peru, Venezuela and Ecuador among others. Its caterpillar is a drill that causes severe damage inside the stem and can lead to total loss of the plant, thus deserving to be studied ways of monitoring and / or control. The purpose of the research was to study the wings of the male of E. c. cyparissias and obtain electrophysiologically active compounds. Pupae were collected from oil palm plants on the farms of the Agropalma group in Tailândia - Pará, Brazil from September to November 2015 to 2018, then directed to LPqRN / UFAL, Maceió -Alagoas, Brazil and kept until obtained adults. Male and female 24 - hour wings were imaged using binocular stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscopy on. 24-48 hour virgin male wing extractions (n = 10) occurred with HPLC solvent for 20 minutes then were stored in vail and kept at (-20°C) until compound profile analysis by gas chromatography coupled to a flame ionization detector, gas chromatography coupled to the mass spectrum and bioassay by gas chromatography coupled to electroantennography. Microscopic images showed that both the anterior and posterior wings of the male presented a region of elongated structures that were absent in the female. The extracts indicated that the male wing samples have a specific male compound. In the electrophysiological bioassay one component was indicated as active and through chemical identification it was evidenced that it is a terpene.
