Abstract

Environmental Licensing is a legal means through which public authorities regulate and monitor economic activities that have a considerable environmental impact. This is an essential tool to balance economic demands with environmental safeguarding, with the intention of controlling human actions that may have relevant impacts on the environment. In view of this controversy, this article aims to analyze the Environmental Licensing by Adhesion and Commitment as an effective instrument of environmental protection or legal-institutional setback. To this end, the principles and norms of environmental law governing environmental licensing and the implications of LAC for environmental protection will be analyzed. In this way, this study brought up an important debate on environmental protection and the need to seek alternatives to ensure a balance between economic development and environmental preservation. It is essential that society is engaged in this process, seeking solutions to environmental challenges and valuing the importance of environmental protection for the present and future generations.
