Abstract

Introduction: Systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) is considered the most widespread cardiovascular disease globally. With the increasing life expectancy of the population, there is a growing number of individuals leading sedentary lifestyles, consequently, the prevalence of arterial hypertension worldwide is expected to gradually rise. Method: The article was produced as an experience report using the Maguerez's Arch methodology, considering the difficulty of implementing strategies for monitoring SAH in primary care. Patient follow-up occurred at two health units in the municipality of Passagem, PB, between March and December 2023. Results: Patient care was divided between the Maria das Neves Basic Health Unit and the Café do Vento Basic Health Unit. Initially, the organization of the schedule faced resistance from management, but after assessing low indicators, there was a restructuring to implement HIPERDIA, prioritizing care for diabetic and hypertensive patients. Activities included health education and rigorous blood pressure control. The restructuring of health schedules focusing on the care of these patients emerged as a measure to enhance SAH monitoring in primary care and proved to be an effective intervention method. Conclusion: Primary care plays a decisive and effective role in the detection, treatment, and prevention of SAH, as most patients receive care at this level. Moreover, personalized treatment and appropriate follow-up are essential, especially for patients with secondary hypertension, who may require specific care.
