Abstract

Objective: To evaluate, in patients with Alzheimer's, whether pharmacological treatment associated with occupational therapy compared to pharmacological treatment alone leads to a better prognosis. Method: Systematic Literature Review, based on the formulation of the question << In Alzheimer's disease, does the pharmacological treatment associated with occupational therapy in comparison to the pharmacological treatment alone lead to an improvement in the prognosis?>>. The studies were prospected from the following databases: National Library of Medicine (Pubmed), Occupacional Therapy Systematic Evaluation of Evidence (OTseeker), Clinical Trials (ClinicalTrials.gov), Oxford University Press (Oxford Academic) e World Wide Science (WWS), based on Health Sciences Descriptors. The selection and classification of the articles found contemplated the Methodological Guidelines of the Oxford Quality Score System, known as the Jadad Scale. Results: The findings showed that occupational therapy was allied to common drug treatment, so that the implementation of the most diverse therapeutic methods promotes the deceleration of cognitive loss. Conclusion: It was possible to verify that Occupational Therapy showed its value when associated with other therapeutic techniques, improving the patient's prognosis, contemplating treatment adherence, the commitment of the health team and family monitoring.
